Tanks of World War I

 

 

The vehicle that started it all in 1916, the British Mk IV. A "fish-eye lens" view. Six pounder naval guns were in the sponsons.

 

 

 

 

 

The French Schneider of WW I was a poor, early design with an obstructed gun.

 

 

 

 

The British Whippet was a lighter, faster tank armed only with machine guns.

 

 

 

Another early French experiment, the St. Chamond had petrol-electric drive.

 

 

 

 

 

The German A7V was mechanically awkward and saw little use.
