The Best of HO (1/87) Scale

I recently unpacked a bunch of HO scale minitanks that had been sitting in the closet for years. In general, the HO scale does not have as much detail as 1/76 or 1/72 scale, but the newer HO models are an exception. ( Some of the worst HO models are not by ROCO. I even have a few 15mm white metal miniatures meant for wargaming use. 15mm scales out at about 1/100, and the detail is not so good.) So here are some of the better detailed HO models in the collection. ROCO has issued some newer models that are better still, but I don't have them yet.

The Soviet T35 by Premo is excellent, better than the older 1/76 resin kit I had of this strange tank.

The old ROCO British Churchill was very good for its day.

ROCO's M42 Duster is also nicely detailed. This US anti-aircraft weapon dated from the 1950's.

From the cold-war era. The US M109 mobile howitzer and West German Jagdpanzer were nicely done ROCO models as well. I have never even seen the Jagdpanzer in 1/76 scale. The M109 turret shape is a bit inaccurate, but otherwise a very detailed model.

ROCO's Gepard shows how much detail they could put into 1/87 scale.

This Soviet T62 may not be better than the 1/72 scale model in my collection, but the turret shape looks a little more accurate. ROCO's nice old AMX-30 is in the background.
